www.parliament.scot - The Scottish Parliament - Members' Business Clare Adamson S5M-02223 Type 1 Diabetes in Scotland That the Parliament understands that Scotland has the third highest incidence of type 1 diabetes in the world and that more than 29,000 people are living with the condition with incidence rising particularly rapidly in children under the age of five; recognises the challenges that people with the condition face on a daily basis with constant monitoring and injections of insulin to manage it; understands that it is not linked to lifestyle factors such as diet or exercise; commends the work of JDRF, which is the type 1 diabetes charity that is funding research projects in Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow to improve the lives of people with the condition until a cure is found, and notes JDRF’s objective to foster collaboration between industry, academics and clinicians to ensure that new research is driven forward and that Scotland can play a leading role in finding a cure for type 1 diabetes.
