Vintage Schindler Otis Elevators at 1st Bank Building

Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

This is a massive and beautiful Art Deco skyscraper in St Paul, MN. On par with our version of the Empire State Building. They just finished the 4th elevator modernization in the buildings history. It used to be: Otis Signal Control manual operation, with identical cab layouts like the Empire State. Modded to Otis Autotronic in the 1940's, with pop-out buttons. Modded again in the late 1960's to all Westinghouse Selectomatics. They stayed Westys until Schindler came in around 2009 and modded everything. Its been three years since I've been back, and noticed they did yet another mod, changed up the interior, and added a neat 'history/weather' panel. It actually tells you how the elevators used to look which is really cool. Floors 1-30 (main building), 1-16 (other building).

Comments

  1. Modernize things are good problem with ppl they need to stop with saying they want old only its not gunna be same change is better dont be afraid of change
  2. Elevator #25? That's a lot of elevators for one building! Also quite a neat history behind these. Really nice that even though these are modern, they still have a vintage charm to them.
