Week 1 Architecture- red, yellow, blue

Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

These photos were inspired by where I live, past and present. During week 2 of UNI I returned home, for the first time in 15 years, to the place where I grew up, Napier, New Zealand. In 1931 an earthquake sent shocks through Hawks Bay with consequent fires turning Napier into rubble. The whole town was rebuilt in about 2 years admits the Art deco craze, these photos are just some of the beautiful Art Deco buildings left today. My other photos are from where I live today, on the Northside of Brisbane, most were taken along the Sandgate, Brighton, Redcliffe foreshore.

Comments

  1. Yeah a lot of the houses I had in mind so I took the photos brim the car to look less weird but I wanted the capture the entire building and shoe it's colour scheme
  2. I have noticed that many of your photos seem to be taken at the oblique angle from across the street and it makes me feel more spacious. Also, the first two building of yellow looked very vivid, where did you take them?
  3. The building at 0:26, I believe I've seen it before down at Scarborough or something I can't quite remember. What was it that caught your attention first about this building? For me it's always the use of yellow so prominently which I find isn't normally a pleasing colour to me but in this setting always seems to suit, combined with the large windows and being next to the sea it really seems to stand out from the rest of the buildings in the area.
