What 60 Schools Can Tell Us About Teaching 21st Century Skills: Grant Lichtman at TEDxDenverTeachers

Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

The rate of change in the world demands that we re-imagine and restructure the foundational learning relationship among students, teachers, and knowledge. In September 2012, pursuing a decades-long passion for transformational education, Grant packed up his Prius and set off on a solo, nationwide research tour to discover what schools are doing to prepare students for an evolving future. Find out what he learned from three months on the road visiting 21 states, 64 schools, and the great ideas of 500 educators. Presented by Grant Lichtman, Author and Educational Consultant. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

  2. This was a really great insight into what is happening around the nation right now. wow. Thank you so much.
  3. This all needs to be dismantled. Certificates and compliance with very nonsensical standards written by people who have not been anywhere near a classroom have nothing to do with teaching. You have teachers in the schools who can quote chapter and verse of common core this and MCAS that but who can't spell and don't even know when the Declaration of Independence was signed or how to calculate the circumference of a circle. All that common core this and bureaucratic that has JACK SQUAT TO DO WITH TEACHING. Teaching is knowledge and character. If you can't manage those two things, resign today because you have NO BUSINESS TRYING TO BE A TEACHER. LOAD UP ON KNOWLEDGE AND CHARACTER. GIVE YOUR STUDENTS KNOWLEDGE AND INSPIRE THEM WITH YOUR CHARACTER. If you can't get behind that, get behind an unemployment line.
  4. Great talk!
  5. Never tire of learning.
  6. Words of wisdom, expressed through experience.
  7. Motivating!
  8. Great vídeo!
  9. TEDx has shaped me tremendously
  10. very nice
  11. great initiative, thanks for sharing.
  12. Great presentation. We teachers have become clerks...immersed in paperwork rather than shaping young minds to take on life's challenges. The result: unhappy, uneducated, unemployed youth. That's more dangerous than atomic bomb!!!! The solution:Free teachers from bureaucratic burdens, involve students, parents, community and organizations in school management. WE MIGHT HAVE TO CLOSE ALL THE PRISONS OF THE WORLD. Its not impossible. We teachers are confident... ARE YOU, the so-called system????
  13. It's awesome
  14. All true. I do wish I'd hear a little more reading and writing skills.
  15. Another great presentation Grant. We at the Center for Transformative Teaching and Learning (thecttl.org) at St. Andrew's Episcopal School, which was privileged to host you on your journey (notice I did not say "trip"), will continue to "fan the flame" especially about connecting research in how the mind learns to the classroom practices of all teachers.
  16. Enjoyed this Grant, although the visual leaves me trying to recall where on that red line of your journey you were when we chatted on the phone.
  17. Great synopsis of your journey. We are looking forward to hosting you in the Pacific Northwest and having you guide our thinking and collaboration around harnessing the innovation in our schools.
  18. Very, very nice, Grant. I'm jealous of your road trip! I'll be sharing this on my blog!
  19. Well done, Grant! I will be passing this on to all of my educator friends here in Hawaii. Thanks for taking on such an immense task for such an extended period of time. Uncomfortable and inconvenient and well worth the time, to be sure. I wish you well in your quest to get everyone who can effect change to "get on board"! All the best, Chris
  20. A very big CONGRATULATIONS on a stunning TEDx Talk!!!! Honestly, the most brilliantly distilled understanding of the state of education, it's history, and the future. Genius! It is an honor to know you.
