3. Using your own hardware CAN be profitable, but most people experience that it takes AGES to break even. I do mine, however I mine DASH. It's way more profitable, and you can always convert it into bitcoin if you really want to. I do NOT mine on my own hardware, as it it's just not profitable for me to do so with electricity, heat, and so on.
   For anyone interested in mining their own coins, I'd suggest you to look into Genesis-Mining. It's a huge company (3 years old) who runs HUGE servers located on Iceland. You can mine alot of different coins, however Dash is the most profitable as of right now!
   Anyway, if you buy a 2 year mining contract, you will break even within 6-7 months tops.. Compared to 1½ years using your own hardware. Right now, I'm mining close to 1 dash per day, which is GREAT! If you are interested in doing the same, I advice you to upgrade your contracts regulary to add more hashpower, which means you will mine more. I upgrade my contracts weekly, which in return nets me a higher income.

Let's say Bitcoin becomes big - wouldn't the existing wealth dynamics be maintained and even deepened, simply because the richest people in the world can afford the most efficient mining hardware, the most power to run the hardware, and the most land to host the hardware? The rich get richer, the poorer can't even generate enough electricity to mine 1 coin, especially as the difficulty increases. And then once all 21mill bitcoins are mined and mostly in the pockets of the wealthy, then what?
    Bitcoin could easily be a tool of free market capitalism. Free market capitalism allows monopolies to dominate and inequality to spiral, without regulation.
    
    So I'm wary of the idea that Bitcoin offers something better than what we have currently.
