WHERE GOOD IDEAS COME FROM by Steven Johnson

Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

One of our most innovative, popular thinkers takes on-in exhilarating style-one of our key questions: Where do good ideas come from? With Where Good Ideas Come From, Steven Johnson pairs the insight of his bestselling Everything Bad Is Good for You and the dazzling erudition of The Ghost Map and The Invention of Air to address an urgent and universal question: What sparks the flash of brilliance? How does groundbreaking innovation happen? Answering in his infectious, culturally omnivorous style, using his fluency in fields from neurobiology to popular culture, Johnson provides the complete, exciting, and encouraging story of how we generate the ideas that push our careers, our lives, our society, and our culture forward. Beginning with Charles Darwin's first encounter with the teeming ecosystem of the coral reef and drawing connections to the intellectual hyperproductivity of modern megacities and to the instant success of YouTube, Johnson shows us that the question we need to ask is, What kind of environment fosters the development of good ideas? His answers are never less than revelatory, convincing, and inspiring as Johnson identifies the seven key principles to the genesis of such ideas, and traces them across time and disciplines. Most exhilarating is Johnson's conclusion that with today's tools and environment, radical innovation is extraordinarily accessible to those who know how to cultivate it. Where Good Ideas Come From is essential reading for anyone who wants to know how to come up with tomorrow's great ideas. 7. While having an idea is only part of the process, you've got to market it. The business people say there are 3 M's to making it work and selling your idea. I say there are 5 M's. 1 Money2 Materials3 Manpower4 Managing (What you do with the first 3 and what you make, and order of operations. 5 MarketingBottom line is to find the greatest needs and fill it.

  16. Here's an idea:

I think if we can we should gather genomes of long dead humans and re-introduce their genes into the gene pool. That way the human race can be taken back to a place in it's evolution where the human social and intellectual brain was at it's sharpest and brain size at it's largest. This way we can stop devolving as a species whilst we spend the time to study the Universe and the effects of all our potential tampering before we move on with things such as genetic engineering, bio mechanics and experimental social structures. We'd have to spend probably hundreds or even thousands of years keeping the gene pool supplemented in this way before we'd gather enough information about any likely good course of action but at least this will stop the human race from devolving further in these huge, unnatural civilizations we've found ourselves in and losing all of what evolution and the Universe has provided us

  19. I find the biggest problem to diversity of thought on the web is the personalized search engine. With a constant feed of what I was viewing yesterday, the likelihood I will run across new material is diminished. The only balance in my favor is the slow hunch you speak of. If I half know what I want, then it works. It has pushed me to favor complete works online, or books. The modern sound bite or quote, often leaves me guessing the entire view of the author.
