Concept, photos, videos, examples, construction

Here is a top 14 list of the most incredible and unusual playgrounds in the world like beautiful Swing Time and the amazing Wall-Holla! Subscribe to Talltanic http://goo.gl/wgfvrr # 9 Harry Thomas Sr. Playground Washington D.C. is home to the nerdiest playground in all of America. This playground is unlike most. The Harry Thomas Sr. Playground combines logarithmic functions with good wholesome fun. The entire structure pays homage to the Golden Spiral, also known as Fibonacci Spirals. The curves of paths and parts of the play equipment are built into that familiar shape. This is unequivocally, the most mathematical park ever. # 8 The City Museum The City Museum in St. Louis is a converted 10-story building that was once a factory that belonged to the International Shoe Company. It has since been turned into an ultimate 600,000 square foot urban park. This park is perpetually under construction, constantly adding and changing things to its already expansive park. What makes this park so amazing? For one, there is an elevated jungle gym that uses two repurposed airplanes, two 10-story slides, a Ferris wheel, and even subterranean caves. The whole place is like a love letter to your childhood imagination, and isn’t only heaven for kids, but probably for their parents, too. # 7 Silver Towers Playground in Brooklyn This whimsical playground came from Brooklyn-based artist Tom Otterness. This playground is found in New York City and uses one of Otterness’s bronze figure into a playground structure. This statue is 24.5 feet tall and 30 feet wide. Its arms are made for climbing, and its legs are made for sliding. If only all neighborhood playgrounds could be this magical. # 6 Swing Time This park is the love project from architectural firm Howeler + Yoon, and it is unlike most parks in a lot of ways. First of all, it is a park that is entirely made of swings. Secondly, it acts differently when people aren’t using it and when they are. The name of this park is Swing Time, and it was located in Boston. When the swings are stationary, they emit a white glow. When they are in motion, the light turns into a vibrant purple. This invites people to come out and activate the swings together, strengthening the community and encouraging people to interact with each other and create something beautiful. # 5 The Vail Nests Sun Bird Park, also known by its unofficial name, the Vail Nests, is a park in Vail, Colorado. The park is meant to feel like a bunch of wooden nests connected together by ropes and bridges, although it looks a bit like a futuristic pod society. It is, however, not a futurist park but an homage to birds. This park was built by Tres Birds Workshop and is surrounded by bird houses and bird habitats. If you have ever wanted to feel what life might be like as a bird, The Vail Nests might be the first place on your list. # 4 Green Heart Outdoor Gym This park is a cross between a gym, a park, and an environmentally aware art installation. The Green Heart Outdoor Gym found in the UK city of Hull utilizes exercise and people power to generate energy for a community of up to 5,000 people. The gym is a park that comes with exercise equipment that will store the energy created from people using the exercise equipment. Not only is it green in color and in energy, the company responsible for the Green Heart, called The Great Outdoor Gym Company, promises to plant a tree for every piece of equipment purchased. # 3 Splash Island Water Park Saint Lucia First things first: this is not your grandma’s floating playground. The St Lucia Splash Island Waterpark is an obstacle course that is set up right off the coast of Saint Lucia Island. It is a playground that is waterborne and promises to be fun in a way that no other park could. It kind of makes you wish all parks were set up off a beach in the Caribbean. # 2 The Land In Europe, you can find playgrounds that will seriously mess with your sense of basic child safety laws. The Land is a Welsh Playground that apparently helps kids manage risks in a constructive way. And it is definitely a risky place. Here, children are free to cut things with tools, set fires, and jump around piles of junk. The Land is meant to combat modern society’s obsession with Fear Culture, something that might be inhibiting children from playing and exploring in the most fulfilling ways. Sometimes, the coolest playgrounds might just be the combination of a pile of garbage and a children’s imagination. # 1 Bounce Below There is another Welsh playground that is just as weird but vastly different from the Land. Bounce Below is a park in North-West Wales that converted the old mine in the Llechwedd slate caverns into a fun place for kids. Nets and trampolines that stretch across the open expanse, allowing people to jump around and do somersaults in a historic mine as big as St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. The highest trampoline is a steep 180 feet above the cavern floor.
