Why shouldn’t you be able to ski down a power plant? He refers to his projects as “promiscuous hybrids”—they combine seemingly disparate elements and turn fiction into fact. 10. that's so nice until the plant + waste image. incineration of waste-  any waste is extremely unsustainable and shouldn't occur in the future. you cannot. waste should in the first not be created, recycled or upcycled. the puffy rings of whatever he things is created when waste is burnt looks like an evil belittlement
  11. It's all fine and dandy but when it comes down to it, I hear nothing but problems from the buildings designed by BIG from danes. I recently moved to Copenhagen, I am studying Architectural Technology and I am also working in an architectural firm. I've visited Orestad and while it was a cool slice of creativity, it doesn't feel functional. All the buildings feel more like cultural and design statements rather than catering to their goal. That is, being a home for working, living, people. It could be that their technical designers aren't given enough time or maybe they don't have enough on hand. I don't know.

And maybe it's just a problem with Orestad's layout, but its basically setup like a giant strip mall of design projects on the outskirt of the city. And if you're from Denmark, you know that a) majority of people bike to commute and b) it's windy as hell. Making a giant wind tunnel/alley has got to be the biggest oversight I have seen in some time. I know a colleague who lives in the 8 House and he can't even bike anymore because the wind will just blow him straight off the bike.

The Mountain was quite interesting too but it just felt like a gimmick. Don't get me wrong, it was cool to walk into the parking garage and see all the slopes but there is just so much wasted space. And the exterior facade is just sheet metal with holes cut to make a picture of a mountain. Feels like an after thought. Maybe I am just too pessimistic but I think these buildings should be functional and practical, then the design should come into play. Just like the buildings of our past. Very decorative and beautiful as stated in the beginning of the video. As well as sustainable (heck, they've been around for hundreds and thousands of years) but they're aren't overly complicated for the sake of being such. I think a balance is needed and BIG goes too far off on the design imo.

  16. c'mon, every architecture student knows that this is what we do in university but then in real world our ideas get cut off labeling them as "not commercially viable" !
